Where is my next destination and why?
Sri Lanka is on my calendar.
When I was seven years old, my older sister had a penpal in Ceylon. And that penpal had a seven year old sister too! We younger sisters would swap cards and stamps from time to time, and that went on for a couple of years. Her photos, taken in their backyard, had an exotic look.
Then two years ago, I was in Madagascar at a hotel breakfast buffet and chatting with a well- traveled Englishman. He gave a glowing account of his recent trip, a package tour, to Sri Lanka.
And it’s time to venture back to India, just across the water. Sri Lanka, the former Ceylon, is just south of the Indian subcontinent. It makes sense.
Sri Lanka is packed with historical sights. I’m looking forward to it.
