Paris has been in the news lately. It got me to thinking about all the wonderful things just waiting to be discovered in that city. You can wander from the Louvre to the Eiffel Tower and discover that the outdoor café on the Champs d’Elysees is what you would not want to have missed. It was at the Rodin Museum that I discovered how evocative stone sculpture could be. Then there was the Tomb of Napoleon; the attic of the building on the premises has his strategic battle formations presented using miniature soldiers. I grew up with a ton of those left over from my older brother; if I had only thought about arranging them strategically! Even in the 1980s, I recall getting lost and asking for directions in a Muslim neighborhood where a man walking his dog told me it was not a safe area for me to be wandering about. (Note, it was a neighborhood resident who kindly gave me directions in addition to the warning.) If it’s not violence in the name of freedom for all, then I just can’t relate. Be it there, at home or anywhere.
